Student & Family Resources
Whether you’re new to our school or a longtime Holston Middle School family, we want to provide the resources you need to achieve success. This is a central hub for students and families to easily access information for navigating the school and school day!

Enrollment
Holston Middle School serves students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Students who are zoned for Holston Middle and attended a Knox County elementary school for 5th grade are automatically enrolled.
Enrollment hours for students who are new to the district are from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on full school days and during specified office hours in the summer months.
Enrollment must be completed in person by a parent or legal guardian.

Daily Schedule
At Holston Middle School, learning takes place during the regular school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
To help students get settled and start the day with confidence, our doors open at 7:30 a.m. each morning. This allows time for students to eat breakfast, connect with friends, and prepare for a successful day of learning.

Student Supports
At Holston Middle School, we believe every student deserves the tools and encouragement to succeed. Our dedicated team of staff members work together to create a safe, welcoming environment where all learners can thrive.
We offer a range of supports, including academic interventions, tutoring, and enrichment opportunities, to help students stay on track and reach their goals. Our School Counselors and Whole Child Support Team provide guidance for both academic planning and social-emotional growth, while our Special Education and ELL programs ensure that diverse learning needs are met with care and expertise.
In addition, Holston emphasizes building strong relationships and fostering resilience through mentoring and positive behavior supports. By meeting students where they are and supporting the whole child, we help every Hurricane grow with confidence—both in and out of the classroom.

After School Care
Several community programs offer aftercare to Holston Middle families including Shora, Boys & Girls Club, and Emerald Youth Foundation.

Extracurricular Activities
Learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Holston Middle offers a variety of after-school and extracurricular activities—including athletics, clubs, and performing arts—that give students the chance to build new skills, connect with peers, and explore personal interests.
Different from high school, middle school athletics includes both school-sponsored teams and community-based programs.

Library / Media Center
At Holston Middle School, the library is more than just a place to check out books—it is a hub of student learning, reading, and discovery. The library provides a welcoming space where students can explore new interests, strengthen research skills, and develop a lifelong love of reading. With access to a wide range of age-appropriate books, digital resources, and research tools, students are supported in both their academic work and personal growth as readers.
